The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX)--in collaboration with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars' Kennan Institute (WWC)--will be administering a symposium to bring together senior and junior US scholars to discuss a variety of political, economic, historical, and cultural topics related to the larger region of Asia. Countries in this region include: Afghanistan, China, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, South Korea, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Junior scholars will be chosen based on a national competition. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to continued study, research, and work on and with the countries of the Greater Asia Region, as well as submit developed and policy-driven research proposals . Grants will be awarded to approximately 15 junior scholars. The 2005 Regional Symposium is scheduled to take place in mid-March 2005, in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and will involve three days of reviews of current research projects, roundtable discussions, and the development of policy recommendations.
